Lecanospira
LECANOSPIRA
Gastropods included in the genus Lecanospira possess a modest-sized shell with planospiral coiling. Its general shape is discoidal, with a flat base and a broad, deep umbilicus. The peristome is olive-shaped: it is sharp in the upper region and ends in a strong crest, becoming rounded in the basal region. The ornament of this gastropod consists of strong growth lines occuring solely on the upper regions of the shell.
Remark: The suborders Bellerophontina and Macluritina (to which the genus Lecanospira is assigned) and the suborder Pleurotomariina (to which the genus Pleurotomaria belongs) are the oldest groups of gastropods.
