Favosites
Favosites
A colonial coral with a honeycomb appearance; the colony is massive and can reach considerable dimensions. The individual corallities have a prismatic cross section and are edged
by the presence of septa, sometimes replaced by septal spines; these spines and septa can vary in number, but they are not much developed in any case. The coral possesses complete tabulae.
The family Favositidae includes some of the most abundant forms of coral from the Silurian and Devonian periods; particularly common during these periods were members of the genus Favosites.
