Cryptolithus
CRYPTOLITHUS
An elegant form of trilobite with a very characteristic cephalon: it possesses an external region thickly covered in small, circular depressions, regularly arranged in a radial pattern both on the anterior part of the cephalon and on the sides. The genal spines are typically elongate: directed backwards, their length greatly exceeds the entire length of the body. The glabella and the cheeks are very swollen, with a globular glabella that extends as far as the anterior region. The thorax contains only six segments, with convex axial rings; the pleureae possess a diagonal furrow. The pygidium is subtriangular, centrally elongate, with rounded points; the axis of the pygidium is subdivided into several rings and the pleural area is slightly furrowed transversally.
