BIRKENIA The spindle-shaped body of this small fish is armored by deep, overlapping, articulated scales in rows. A row of ridge scales runs along the top. The terminal mouth forms a vertical slit, surrounded by the smaller, less organized cranial scales. © 1992 Cyril Walker, David Ward .
